Richfield Intermediate School

KidLinks welcomes school partners

The new KidLinks is full of kid appeal. On our home page, listen for the bubbles to pop (Homework Help, Books & Reading etc), thunder to roar (Book Blast), drums to roll and cymbals to crash (Quick Quiz).

This year KidLinks is working with school partners to give kids a chance to contribute to the Web. The KidLinks Librarian will come to your school, working with classroom teachers and/or media specialists. See our September partner page, Richfield Intermediate School.

To become a school partner, contact KidLinks Librarian Ann Melrose at 952.847.8529 or amelrose@hclib.org.

Books Reading Help your student find good books. Browse by genre or award winners, or find books for beginning readers. Listen to short book talks by HCL staff on the Best of the Year list. You can go directly to the Hennepin County Library catalog from all book lists.

Invite students to write about books they've read at Read & Review.

Homework Help Homework Help is organized by easy-to-access subjects:
  • Animals
  • Biography
  • Countries & States
  • Current Events
  • History and Social Studies
  • Language: Español
  • Math
  • Reading & Language Arts
  • Science & Health

Within each subject you'll see databases on the left and selected websites on the right. Databases are paid for by HCL. A library card is needed to access them. Students can apply for a library card online.

Any questions? Feel free to contact Ann Melrose at 952.847.8529 or amelrose@hclib.org

  • Teen Read Month LOL AT YOUR LIBRARY!

October is Teen Read Month at Hennepin County Library, based on YALSA's LOL@Your Library. Teens can get a Fine Waiver which erases fines of $10 or less from their cards. Teens can also get new library cards free of charge (normally they're a $1) if they want to update their signature or if they've misplaced their original card. We also host a variety of programs to celebrate the theme of Teen Read Month.

Keep an eye on Teen Events at Your Library here on TeenLinks for events at your community library. This fall we have

  • book clubs
  • anime clubs
  • gaming nights with Wiis and PS2s
  • Comedy Sportz improv workshops
  • a poll to decide Who Tells the Best Joke Ever
  • Meet humorous poet John Grandits and author Catherine Clark

Want more information about good books to read? Teens are now able to submit and share booklists online based on the theme of their choice. See the cool lists that we've added this summer!

  • Teens, Technology, Youth and Learning is TTYL@HCL! Need a free tutor? Check out the Library's after school program ttyl@HCL. If your teen is in grades 6 through 12, go to Augsburg Park or Brookdale Monday thru Wednesday from 3-7 p.m., ending Dec. 19. Brookdale also has Sunday hours from 1-4 p.m. Tutors will be available to help with homework. Teens will also have a chance to improve their tech literacy and have fun playing with a Wii or PlayStation 2. We also give them time to create computer games, podcasts, and videos...all for free.

Any questions? Feel free to contact Jody Wurl at 952.847.8521 or jwurl@hclib.org
