Family Read
Family Read Research shows that childrens' interest in reading for fun drops significantly at age 8, especially for boys. Research also shows that parents have the greatest influence over their children's reading habits.

The Family Read project offers workshops to help parents keep their readers reading by offering tips to help their kids find good books.

  • Need help for students doing projects about states? Look under Countries & States. A good website is called Stately Knowledge which leads to a U.S. map, then quick facts and websites about each state.

Databases can contain the same information as reference books. Start with Culture Grams and click on States Edition. Also check out Lands and People. Databases are paid for by the library and require a library card for access. Students can apply for a library card online.

  • Great Books for Young Adults

  • In January the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) announced 2009 awards. TeenLinks lists all medal and honor books with links to the catalog in Read On: Award Winning Books.
