New Walker Library Construction Update
Demolition preparation has begun at the construction site of the new Walker Library. The site, including the area with the office trailer, was enclosed with fencing. A temporary, paved walkway north of the construction site connects the Mall with Hennepin Avenue.
Here’s a brief summary of construction-related activities:
  • The right-turn lane on Hennepin Avenue, running south from mid-block to the Hennepin/Lagoon intersection, was closed and marked with barriers and signage. It will remain closed during the construction project. Right turns from Hennepin Avenue to Lagoon Avenue are permitted from the drive lane closest to the barrier.
  • Pile-driving will begin about December 14.  The piles are driven into the ground to retain the earth during demolition. While it will be noisy at times throughout the day, Shaw-Lundquist Associates, Inc. limits construction work to the hours between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
  • Full demolition of the building will begin about December 28 and continue into February, 2013.
