* Improved convenience: two catalog systems now one. Whether you have a Hennepin County or Minneapolis library card, you now have access to a combined catalog of more than 1.6 million unique book, CD and DVD titles! This consolidation will help reduce overall operating costs and increase efficiencies.
* Borrow to save. Easy-to-use Power Check energy meters from Xcel Energy are available for check out from selected libraries or reserve online at www.hclib.org beginning Oct. 1. The meters identify high-energy appliances and come with home-energy assessment instructions, worksheets and information about rebates, money-saving energy tips and incentive programs.
* Online K-12 homework help. In addition to Homework Hub at nine libraries, professional educators are available to help with assignments online daily from 1-11 p.m. Log on at www.hclib.org/homework. Online tutoring service funded by MELSA (Metropolitan Library Service Agency).
* Nokomis Library to close Sept. 12 for renovations. Kick-off Nokomis Library’s renovation with a special storytime event featuring Commissioner Peter McLaughlin on Saturday, Sept. 12 from 10 am to noon. Last day to place a request for pick up at Nokomis is August 22. See details…

* Hennepin’s Cool County Green Expo Learn easy, inexpensive ways to save the environment and your wallet, including the new Power Check energy meter for checking your home power usage.
* Money matters. Join cultural experts and scholars in discussions of topics such as global economy, ringtones, food crisis, trends in art museums, and more.
* Upgrade your job skills Enroll in career-enhancing short courses in human resources, accounting and project management at Central and Ridgedale libraries. These courses are offered in partnership with the University of Minnesota’s College of Continuing Education and there is a fee involved.
* Join in the ultimate debate Wizard or vampire? Potter or "Twilight"? Two live debates, an online poll and wall-to-wall debate at libraries for you to decide which series is best!
