Library Cards

Apply Online

Suburban Hennepin County residents and property owners may obtain a free library card at any Library location. Cards are issued immediately (bring identification showing your current address). You may also Apply Online -- your card will be sent to your home by US Mail within two weeks.

Residents of the seven county metro area may apply for a free library card online. Applications will be forwarded to your home library system (e.g. suburban Ramsey County resident applications to Ramsey Co. Library etc.) Cards will be issued by the home system and mailed to you.

Residents of the seven county metro area and residents of the state of Minnesota (outside the seven county metro area) may register a valid library card from their home regional system with Hennepin County Library. Complete an online application and include the library card barcode number.

By Minnesota law, the information which links your name with library materials, and the address, telephone, and birthdate information you give when you register for a card is private. It is available only to you and to appropriate library staff in support of library service.

All Library employees are advised that such records shall not be made available to any agency of state, federal or local government except pursuant to such process, order, or subpoena as may be authorized under the authority of, and pursuant to, federal, state or local law relating to civil, criminal, or administrative discovery procedures or legislative investigatory power.

The Library will resist the issuance or enforcement of any such process, order, or subpoena until such time as a proper showing of good cause has been made in a court of competent jurisdiction.
