The Hennepin County Library Board is appointed by the County Board of Commissioners, and consists of
11 Hennepin County residents.
Vacancies on the
Library Board are publicized and citizens are encouraged to apply through an open appointments process. (See also Open Appointments Process: Questions and Answers and the Open Advisory Board application form.) Vacancies are advertised in late Fall with applications due December 31st of that year.

The Hennepin County Board of Commissioners will host an event sponsored by the Library Foundation of Hennepin County to celebrate the united Hennepin County Library on Tuesday, March 18, 2008 from 5-7 p.m. at the Minneapolis Central Library, 300 Nicollet Mall, Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The Library Board is responsible for:
- recommending the Library's proposed operating and capital budgets each
year;
- reviewing long-range plans annually, in conjunction with the budget
recommendations;
- developing policies for the operation and administration of the library system; and
- maintaining and developing the library system's collection.
