Welcome and Approvals

Chair Jill Joseph called the meeting to order at 3:40 p.m. Sandy Johnson made a motion to approve the agenda; seconded by Ms. Joseph. Motion passed. Ms. Joseph made a motion to approve the meeting summary of June 11, 2009; seconded by Ms. Johnson. Motion passed.

2009 Operating Budget Request Presentation to County Board

Library Director Lois Thompson reviewed the 2009 Operating Budget presentation with committee members. Discussion followed.

2010 Operating Budget Request Presentation to County Board

Ms. Thompson reviewed the proposed 2010 Operating Budget Request transmittal letter to County Administrator Richard Johnson July 17, 2009. The status of the proposed 2010 Library Operating Budget request was reviewed by Operations Manager Nancy Palmer. Discussion included support from Mr. Johnson for a one-time use of the fund balance for collection, funding for two Property Services facilities staff for new Maple Grove and Plymouth libraries, health care cost reduction, and an additional $760,650 reduction requested by Mr. Johnson. Given the directive to continue to maintain/possibly expand open hours, Ms. Thompson was asked to report back with clarification from Mr. Johnson on the decision to ask for an additional reduction. Discussion followed and Library Board committee members provided input to the Library Director for preparation of the 2010 Operating Budget request presentation.

· Next LB Budget & Finance meeting date: Mon., Oct. 12, 3:30-4:30 p.m., Ridgedale Library, Robert H. Rohlf Meeting Room

· Ms. Lamb requested staff e-mail a synopsis of the Sept. 15 Mpls. Planning Commission meeting re: Nokomis Library on Sept. 16

· Library Director and staff will draft and present the 2010 operating budget presentation for committee review/feedback Oct. 12.

· Draft Sept. 14 meeting summary will be forwarded to Committee chair to be approved at the Oct. 12, 2009 committee meeting.
