MASTER DRUMMER, MASTER STORYTELLER TO PERFORM AT ANNUAL 'PICNIC AT WAYZATA LIBRARY' FOR FAMILIES
Performances by master drummer Francis Kofi and master storyteller Nothando Zulu will highlight the annual "Picnic at Wayzata Library" for families 4-6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 15 in the Children's Garden at the library, 620 Rice St. This summer's community celebration is sponsored by the Friends of the Wayzata Library and presented in collaboration with the city of Wayzata, Wayzata Bar & Grill, Wayzata Area Chamber of Commerce, Minnetonka Center for the Arts, Blick Art Materials - Minnetonka, Creative Kidstuff, and the Bookcase of Wayzata. Admission is free.

MINNESOTA BOOK AWARDS CELEBRATE STATEWIDE TALENT

Each year studies tell us how “literate” we are, our libraries are known nationally for their excellence, we have an abundance of local booksellers that cater to our bibliographic whims, and our state is home to a host of quality publishers. What's more, we can also boast of a profusion of great authors that call Minnesota home. An impressive sampling of those authors attended the Minnesota Book Awards Gala on April 25 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Ballroom in St. Paul.

DON'T PUT A BOOKMARK IN READING FOR THE SUMMER
By Hennepin County Commissioner Mike Opat There’s no better time of year than summertime for any kid, including my three. Another school year has passed by, and responsibilities are limited to summer sports, household chores, perhaps a summer job. Kids and teens get a chance to shake the title of “student” and enjoy themselves for what seem like the fastest few months of the year. But even after the school year ends, keeping kids and teens engaged in books throughout the summer is crucial to their future.
