One Percent for Art
Hennepin County recognizes that public art inspires citizens and contributes to civic pride. To further the acquisition of public art in Hennepin County Library building projects of $1 million or more, one percent (1%) of the project costs will be dedicated to the selection, purchase and installation of works of art.
Dragon Sculpture Installed at Maple Grove Library
The suspended art piece, a flying dragon, designed by local artists Shawn Trentlage and Darcy Ferrill has been installed at the Maple Grove Library in the childrens area. This art was funded through the One Percent for Art initiative in which capital building projects of $1 million or more have 1% of the capital project dedicated to the selection, purchase, and installation of works of public art,

Artists Selected to Produce Art for Maple Grove Library
On September 1, the art selection committee for Maple Grove Library artists to develop public art for two locations.
Janet Lofquist was selected to produce a monumental sculpture for the library exterior. Janet's other public art at Hennepin County Library is Pages which was created for the East Lake Library in 2007. Pages consists of etched glass on two sides of the library's exterior.
The team of Darcy Ferrill and Shawn Trentlage were selected to create a suspended piece in the children’s area.
It is anticipated the works will be installed in 2011 and a library event will be held at that time.

Six Finalists selected for Public Art at Maple Grove Library
Six artists have been selected to present designs to the Maple Grove Library Art Selection Committee on Wednesday, September 1.
The finalists for the Children's Area Suspended Artwork are:

* Shawn Trentlage and Darcy Ferrill
* Art Videen
The finalists for the Exterior Sculpture are:
* Janet Lofquist
* Gloria Tew
* Foster Willey
