Dragon Sculpture Installed at Maple Grove Library

The suspended art piece, a flying dragon, designed by local artists Shawn Trentlage and Darcy Ferrill has been installed at the Maple Grove Library in the childrens area. This art was funded through the One Percent for Art initiative in which capital building projects of $1 million or more have 1% of the capital project dedicated to the selection, purchase, and installation of works of public art,

Artists Selected to Produce Art for Maple Grove Library

On September 1, the art selection committee for Maple Grove Library artists to develop public art for two locations.

Janet Lofquist was selected to produce a monumental sculpture for the library exterior. Janet's other public art at Hennepin County Library is Pages which was created for the East Lake Library in 2007. Pages consists of etched glass on two sides of the library's exterior.

The team of Darcy Ferrill and Shawn Trentlage were selected to create a suspended piece in the children’s area.

It is anticipated the works will be installed in 2011 and a library event will be held at that time.

Six Finalists selected for Public Art at Maple Grove Library

Six artists have been selected to present designs to the Maple Grove Library Art Selection Committee on Wednesday, September 1.

The finalists for the Children's Area Suspended Artwork are:
* Caprice Glaser
* Shawn Trentlage and Darcy Ferrill
* Art Videen

The finalists for the Exterior Sculpture are:
* Janet Lofquist
* Gloria Tew
* Foster Willey

Artists Selected for Plymouth One Percent for Art Initiative

On June 3rd, the Plymouth Library Public Art Selection Committee interviewed six finalists to develop art for two locations at the new Plymouth Library.

At that meeting, Phil Daniel Architectural Stained Glass was selected to develop glass art that will reside in the three windows on the west side of the building. Staff and customers maybe familiar with glass art Phil Daniel has created for the Linden Hills and Wayzata libraries in Hennepin County.

Additionally, St. Louis Park artist, Joan Solomon was selected to develop an art installation for the opposite east overhead wall. Joan's approach will include a series of textile panels.

Currently, Hennepin County Property Services is developing contracts for the artists. The artists are working independently and together to finalize design concepts prior to beginning fabrication.

Art installation is anticipated in the first half of 2011.

Call for Artists (RFQ) for Maple Grove Library

Hennepin County Library is seeking applicants to develop two engaging, high quality works of art to be exhibited in the new Maple Grove Library under the Hennepin County's One Percent for Art Initiative.

Details are included in the Request for Qualifications (RFQ) document and Cover Sheet/Image List. Both can be found under the Documents heading after clicking on Maple Grove.

Maple Grove Public Art Selection Committee: Meeting 1

The first meeting of the Maple Grove public art selection committee was held Tuesday, April 13 at 6 pm at the Maple Grove Library

Two art locations were identified:

* One large suspended piece in the children's area
* Outdoor sculpture in the circular drive area

The Request for Qualifications will be finalized and posted in early May and run through early June. Artists will then have an opportunity to see the building during grand opening on May 22 or after.

The next meeting will be on June 15, 2010, 5-8 pm at the new Maple Grove Library, 8001 Main Street N.

Plymouth Library Public Art Selection Committee: Meeting 2

The Plymouth Library Public Art Selection Committee met on Wednesday, April 7 at the Plymouth Library. Minutes and a slideshow of the finalists determined at that meeting can be found in the Documents section under Plymouth.

The next committee meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 3 and will include interviews with finalists.
