The Book-Loving Dragon
by Darcy Ferrill and Shawn Trentlage
at Maple Grove Library - Children’s area
Colored glass, aluminum and acrylic
Artist's statement: This dragon was ‘starved for knowledge’—so it ate the books—now it has a full belly of thoughts and ideas. This dragon is a lighthearted curious character that is floating while reading (an elevated/euphoric state). This dragon is also holding its favorite book with its tail adding an entertaining spirit to the form.

Phenomena
by Janet Lofquist
at Maple Grove Library - North lawn
Aluminum and glass
Artist's statement: Inspired by natural phenomena, the sculptural form alludes to temporal events as a way of suggesting this process. Impressions might include a rush of water as a metaphor for the flow of knowledge. Or, as a gestural expression, it might call to mind a brief gust of wind scattering the essence of an idea. With the piece silhouetted against the sky, one might imagine a comet as a fleeting moment of light.
