In 1986, the Library Foundation of Hennepin County was established to raise private sector support to benefit the entire Hennepin County Library system - its 26 libraries, bookmobile and eLibrary. Since its beginning thousands of donors have contributed nearly $4 million to the Foundation.
In 1991 Hennepin County Library's Children's Readmobile began making regular stops at daycare centers throughout the county. The Foundation's funding support of the Readmobile was the beginning of support for literacy and life-long learning for all of suburban Hennepin County that continues today.
In 1997 the Foundation launched a successful major author lecture series, Pen Pals. Ready for its seventh season, the series continues to offer entertaining and thought-provoking presentations by the country's top authors.
From creating the Children's Readmobile, to expanding the Russian language book collection in 1995, to Family Read-to-Me programs, to bringing the community many national authors, and so much more, the Foundation has helped the Library undertake special projects and services not otherwise possible.
The Library Foundation of Hennepin County is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation.
