Volunteer Task Description


POSITION:Adopt-a-Shelf Volunteer
DESCRIPTION:Hennepin County Library can best serve the public when every item in the collection is in its proper place. In order to keep the shelves of materials in order, volunteers adopt a selected or assigned section of shelving.
DUTIES:For each assigned/selected section of materials:

1. Learn the unique requirements of shelving for the section.

2. "Square" the shelves so that the shelves have an equal amount of materials.

3. Pull materials to the front of the shelf.

4. Check materials to assure each is in the proper section and in correct alphabetical/Dewey decimal order.

5. Wipe off the surface of the shelf.

6. Refer customer questions to Information Desk staff.

7. Other duties, as directed.
QUALIFICATIONS:1. Detail/order oriented

2. Ability to work independently

3. Experience with filing
COMMITMENT:Six-month commitment of 2-3 hours every other week (may vary with section). Attend all training sessions.
TRAINING/SUPERVISION: Agency staff will provide training and supervision.
