Effective June 29, lending rules currently in place at our Minneapolis and suburban libraries will be combined to simplify borrowing, lessen confusion and prepare for the consolidation of our two library catalogs in late August. Standard loan period will continue to be 21 days for most items.
Some of the major changes that will take effect on June 29:
- The standard loan period remains the same: 21 days for most items, and 7 days for DVDs and videos. Suburban libraries' 14-day loan period for high demand items will be eliminated.
- Previously at libraries in Minneapolis, customers could renew items a maximum of two times. Effective June 29, customers at all libraries, in Minneapolis and in suburban Hennepin County, may renew items (including DVDs and videos) up to three times, unless the item is requested by another customer.
- The maximum number of items a customer can check out remains at 100. All formats (books, DVDs, CDs, videos, periodicals) will contribute to this total.
Generally, if there were differences between lending rules in Minneapolis and suburban Hennepin County, the new, consolidated lending rules opt for the less restrictive customer limit.
Further details will be posted as the new rules are implemented.
