Posters of World War II includes posters from the Kittleson Collection published from approximately 1939 to 1945. The posters illustrate a variety of themes including patriotism, recruitment, vigilance, conservation of resources, and the value of doing one's job well. Reproductions of most posters can be ordered online. Additional WWI and WWII posters can be viewed on the University of Minnesota’s Images database
The posters afforded artists, photographers, graphic designers, and printers the opportunity to showcase their work. Posters published in the United States are from military and government departments, civilian service groups, and private businesses. Also in the collection are posters from other countries including England, Canada, Germany, China, and various nations' information centers located in New York.
The Kittleson World War II Collection contains more than 9,000 books, 3,500 pamphlets, 700 posters, many periodicals, and thousands of photographs and maps, as well as personal scrapbooks and letters relating to all aspects of the war. Begun by J. Harold Kittleson in 1944, it constitutes the largest collection of WWII material in the Upper Midwest.
