- NetLibrary: A free NetLibrary account is required. If you have a library card registered with Hennepin County Library and do not have a NetLibrary account, create an account by accessing NetLibrary. If you have previously created a NetLibrary account to access the eBook collection, you do not need to create a new account.
OverDrive: No special account is required (although there is a required free download.) Titles may be checked out and downloaded using your registered library card.
- The loan period is 21 days.
- Renewals
NetLibrary: Titles can be renewed at any point by logging into your account. A renewal provides you with an additional 21 days of access from the date of renewal. You may renew each title one (1) time.
OverDrive: Titles cannot be renewed, but you can check them out again if they are available when your checkout expires.
- Titles checked out from NetLibrary or OverDrive will not appear on your Hennepin County Library account. Log in to your NetLibrary and/or OverDrive accounts to check the status of your downloads.
- A maximum of 10 audiobooks from NetLibrary and 15 OverDrive titles (audio, video, and music) may be checked out at any given time. You may check out additional titles when the license for a currently downloaded title expires.
- Audiobooks may not be downloaded in Hennepin County Library buildings due to the significant amount of network resources needed to download these large files.

Advice from Library users on selecting an audio player
- Some OverDrive titles may be burned to a CD, but for NetLibrary titles encryptions on the audiobook files make burned copies unusable.
- iPods and Macs do not currently support DRM-protected Windows Media Audio (WMA) or Windows Media Video (WMV) files used by OverDrive and NetLibrary downloadable audiobooks.
