History
The Hostesses were founded August 24, 1898. The purpose of their founding was to make arrangements for a Ball, with the idea of making them a permanent social event each winter. Rules were drawn up relating to the management committee and to subscribers and the use of tickets. The balls were held at the West Hotel. The first ball was on November 18, 1898.
Description of Collection
Collection includes a minutes book containing information from the founding on August 24, 1898, through the Treasurer's report for 1912. A list of reception committees for the years 1899 through 1912 is included. Also included are three scrapbooks, which contain newspaper clips of the Hostess and Charity Balls, theater parties, weddings, engagements, other society events from November 1898 through December 17, 1912. A finding list is included inside the front cover of the minutes book. Box 1: Minutes book (1898-1912) Box 2: Scrapbook, November 1898-November 1909. Box 3: Scrapbook, November 1902-July 1, 1904.
