History
Women's club was organized and federated in 1926. The object of the club was "the mutual improvement of its members in literature, art, science, and the vital interests of the city." The club was founded by Mrs. Emily Ramsay, Mrs. D.H. Smith, and Mrs. D. Macfarlane in 1926. Study meetings and group events tended to be held monthly in a member's household. Members of the organization tended to be from the Minneapolis area exclusively in the earlier years of 1926-1944. Between the years 1951-1974, the membership expanded to women in the greater Twin Cities metro.
Description of the Collection
Collection includes the history of the club, several clippings, and programs from 1928-1944 and 1951-1974, with some missing years. The programs outline agendas for each meeting and gives a list of the club`s leadership and membership for the particular year. A questionnaire by the Minnesota Federation of Women's Clubs from March 1942 is also among the collection. The questionnaire has the Ionian Study Club describe the purpose and history of their organization.
