History
The Peripatetics Club of Minneapolis was organized in 1890. During the 1880s, four women held weekly meetings to provide uninterrupted time to study subjects of interest to them. This group was formally organized on March 12, 1890. Meetings were held every other week on Monday. The focus of the organization has been on âliterary exercisesâ. The literary exercises were prepared talks by the members on specific topics. Each year a topic was selected that was the main theme for the year. Annual themes have included India, life and thought in 18th Century France, the golden period of Spanish history, evolution, introduction to social ethics, and the United Nations. Membership was limited. When the organization celebrated its 100th anniversary, several founding members had relatives still active in the organization.
