History
The Prospect Park Study Club (PPSC) was founded in 1896. The Prospect Park Study Club was in the tradition of many other Federation of Womenss Clubs, a study club. The club selected topics of an academic nature and or current interest topic for prepared programs given by their members to the club membership. The members faithfully documented their club's history. The scrapbooks reflect a strong interest in the Prospect Park neighborhood including its residents and the neighborhoods history.
Description of Collection
Five boxes of materials include programs, constitutions, correspondence, clippings, secretary's minutes, treasurer's ledger, and scrapbooks from 1901 to 2000. The programs list the various topics studied over the years and range from studying the political conditions in Europe (a program in 1901) to the various races that made up the population of the United States (a program in 1933) to the history of immigration policies (a program in 2000). The scrapbooks cover not only club events and its members but also the Prospect Park neighborhood, its history, residents, and events. Scrapbooks include mostly correspondence and newspaper clippings. The PPSC was a member of the 5th District of the Minnesota Federation of Women's Clubs.
