Locating Tax Forms at Hennepin County Libraries

• A selection of standard Minnesota and federal individual income tax forms are available for free distribution at Hennepin County Libraries during tax season. Brookdale, Ridgedale, and Southdale also have sets of federal forms and publications for photocopying.
  
  
• State and federal tax forms can be downloaded and printed from state and federal sites.

• Employer and information forms such as W-2, 1098 and 1099 forms can be ordered directly from the IRS.

Taxpayer Assistance Programs

• The State of Minnesota has a list of Free Tax Preparation Sites. Check for times, locations, and eligibility.
  
  
• AARP Tax Aide Program
  Volunteers assist seniors and low income taxpayers in preparing their federal and state income tax returns. Check for eligibility, locations and times.
  
  
• Brooklyn Park and Maple Grove Libraries will have AARP volunteers from February through April. Check the Hennepin County Library Events Calendar under Tax Help for more information.
  
  
• AccountAbility Minnesota
  Free tax preparation assistance is available to individuals with an annual income of $25,000 or less, families with an annual income of $40,000 or less and small businesses with an annual income of $50,000 or less.
  
  
• Community Action Partnership for Suburban Hennepin County
  CAPSH will be offering tax preparation assistance at several Hennepin County Libraries on specific days. Brookdale Library is also offering tax help from CAPSH and has information on the dates and times on their homepage. Call 952-933-9639 ext. 211 for information and an appointment. Check the CAPSH website for information on other dates, locations, times, and eligibility requirements.
  
  
• Minnesota Society of Certified Public Accountants (MNCPA) Referral Service.

Electronic Tax Filing Information

• Electronic filing may be completed using a personal computer and internet access. Follow instructions from the IRS and the state of Minnesota. Note: eFile for the Minnesota Property Tax Refund is not available on library computers.
  
  
• A special note about E-filing using library computers:
  Whereas E-filing may be done at any of the Hennepin County libraries, taxpayers must be alerted to the fact that our computers are configured to be public access machines and not personal computers. For the above reason, Hennepin County Library clearly states that it is not responsible for any liability that may occur as a result of the disclosure of financial or other personal information over the system.

• Will I be able to pick up publications as well as forms from your libraries?
  No, we only have selected free federal and state tax forms to give away to the public. Southdale, Ridgedale and Brookdale libraries have the complete set of federal publications for photocopying. Publications may also be ordered from the IRS at 800-829-3676.
  
  
• Where can I find the Minnesota CRP form?
  CRP (Certificate of Rent Paid) Forms are not available for distribution from Hennepin County Libraries. Property Tax refund information and CRP (Certificate of Rent Paid) forms can be obtained directly from the Department of Revenue and on their website.
  
  
• Will I be able to find the same set of forms at all Hennepin County libraries?
  No, each library has the option of selecting its own list of forms to distribute to the public. Usually, the decision is based on space considerations. For this reason, it is always advisable to call your local library to confirm the availability of a needed form before you go.
  
  
• Are tax forms from other states available?
  You can find links to other state tax agencies along with their forms through the site for the Federation of Tax Administrators.
  
  
• Do you have tax forms from previous years?
  The Southdale, Ridgedale and Brookdale libraries have reproducible federal and state forms from the past five years for photocopying.
  
  
• Do you have envelopes I can use to send in my tax forms?
  Envelopes for the Minnesota forms are included in the booklet.
  A plain envelope can be used for the federal forms and mailed to the following address: IRS Center, Fresno CA 93888-0002 (no check) 93888-00102 (check enclosed).
  
  
• Do you have tax help books that I can check out?
  Yes, such books are available at Hennepin County libraries for check out.
