Minnesota students placed well in the National History Day competition
in June. Two Hennepin County students received Outstanding Entry designations with a Senior Group Documentary called "Driven to Decline: Interstate Highways, Suburbanization, and Urban Decay," and a Junior Individual Performance called "The U.S.-Dakota War of 1862: A Tragic Turning Point Fueled by Greed, Corruption, and Racism."
Sixteen other Minnesota students were finalists in 13 categories, with eight of them placing in the top 3 in 7 categories, including a first place win for a Senior Group Performance by three Mendota Heights students with their piece "John Paul II's Apostolic Journey to Poland."
Hennepin County students placed well in the State competition
in May, with ten students winning a spot in the top two for ten categories. Thanks for supporting History Day in Minnesota!

The month of June was recently officially declared
National LGBT Pride Month by President Obama. June has traditionally been named as LGBT Pride Month to commemorate the Stonewall Riots. The Twin Cities Pride Festival
is at the end of this month, June 28-30.
