Print from your Laptop at the Library

Requirements: you must be running Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows 2003, or Windows Vista. Apologies to our Mac users - our software is not compatible with the Mac OS at this time.

Select your library from the following list (sorry, not all libraries offer printing):

How do I install the driver?
After downloading the driver, click on "Run" or "Open" to install the file. A new printer will appear in your printers listing.

How does it work?
When printing a document at the library, select the new printer from the list of installed printers. Your printout will be routed to the library’s printstation where you can pay and print the document.

Note:The printer you install uses a color driver. You will want to set black and white printing as the default since you will be charged color prices if you leave it set to color.
Setting Printing Preferences to Black and White

  • Open your Printers and Faxes folder
  • Right-click on the printer named yourlibrary Public Library and select Printing Preferences
  • Click on Paper tab (or Color tab for Eden Prairie, Oxboro, and Wayzata)
  • Under Output select Black (or at Eden Prairie, Oxboro, and Wayzata under Color Options click to place a check in the box labeled Print in Grayscale)
  • Click OK.

How will this affect my computer?
The install program will download an install package to the c:\documents and settings\<your login>\Local Settings\Pharos\temp folder on your computer and then install a printer in your Printers folder along with the appropriate driver and an uninstall program. Your Start menu will have a listing for Pharos with sublistings for Pharos Notify and Uninstall Pharos.

An updater is included in the installation. The updater will check with the library’s server and update components as needed.

How do I remove the printer?
To uninstall the printer click on Start, click on Programs and select Pharos > Uninstall Pharos. Your PC will prompt you to restart, but you may cancel this prompt if you wish.

Can I print at other Hennepin County libraries?
Yes. You may print by installing the printer for the library you are visiting. If you do install more than one library printer and want to delete only one, do not use Uninstall. Just delete the printer in your Printers and Faxes folder.
