In creating this colorful piece, artist Shari Cornish was inspired by the Colorform toy sets of past decades, in which kids could attach bright shapes to an underlying board to create constantly changing scenes. Here, the artist used hand-knotted New Zealand wool to form an interactive art carpet that calls out for play and creative interaction.
“‘Blackboard’ serves as a game board on which kids play and build images and forms using brightly colored painted industrial felt shapes. My designs are influenced largely by my love of vintage fabrics, quilts, game boards and contemporary graphic arts.”
