Greg
I mostly read books for pleasure, and enjoy a variety of fiction and non-fiction books. Favorites include mysteries and sports (baseball, in particular), along with books that have a connection to American history or Minnesota.   Print this list Print this list

Hertzel, Laurie.
A wonderful insight into newspaper journalism in the 1970s and 1980s, when women were breaking into a male-dominated profession. Great touches of humor, too. (Hertzel now is the books editor for the StarTribune.)

Ick! Yuck! Eew! : our gross American history
Huey, Lois Miner
This book will make you "grossly" thankful you didn't live in America in 1770, when lice were in your hair (and wig)and barbers pulled your rotten teeth without painkillers (except for a shot of whiskey). Children's books like this one are often an interesting read for adults, too.

Go : a Kidd's guide to graphic design
Kidd, Chip.
From your tube of toothpaste to the billboards on the highway, graphic design is everywhere. But what makes good graphic design, especially in today's world where easy-to-use tech gizmos often result in lousy-looking graphics? This book shows and explains it in an easy, eye-appealing and cool way. A great book for all ages.

Robert B. Parker's Bull River
Knott, Robert, 1954-
If you are in the mood for a good western, this fits the bill. Once again, the author has done a great job of carrying on Parker's western series featuring glib-talking, fast-shooting lawmen Virgil Cole and Everett Hitch. This time they travel to Mexico to rescue a young lady held hostage by a bad guy. Suspenseful and a quick read.

Spitz, Bob.
If you're a long-time Beatles fan but wary, like me, of the mammoth, highly-detailed books on the Fab Four, you'll enjoy this easy-flowing read. It's especially good in detailing the young lives of the Lads from Liverpool and also their early years as the Beatles with interesting personal info and pics.
