About the art

This 26-foot-high sculpture is inspired by natural phenomena, calling to mind a giant bird’s nest, a rush of water, a gust of wind or a fleeting comet. A matrix of stainless steel rods forms the bulk of this striking piece, within which are nestled glass “rocks” that catch glints of sun throughout the day.

Artist statement

“I wanted to draw on the ephemeral qualities of nature as a visual metaphor for the creative process and the alchemy of ideas and images within the context of the library. … Just as writers have used words to engage us, the intent of the sculpture is to create an experience that engages the viewer and stretches the imagination.”
