About the art

This series of photographs by Wing Young Huie captures—and invites—the spirit of discovery. The local photographer was commissioned to document neighborhood residents immersed in activities of discovery, from classes to cooking to community gardening. The resulting photographs form a visually engrossing collage that conveys the interconnectedness and diversity of the library community. An adjacent wall features detail shots with quotes from each subject, echoing and magnifying the discovery for library visitors.

Artist statement

“Every photographic encounter was a collaboration of sorts. Many [people] I found were reading or writing, which are certainly fundamental acts of discovery.”
