Mosaic Minnesota

About the art

With “Mosaic Minnesota,” Todd Severson has created a visual representation of our interwoven community—illustrating the ways individuals thread together to shape each other, society and history. More than 100 miniature watercolor portraits highlight the faces of local movers and shakers, historical figures and other notable personalities from the neighborhood, city and state. Viewed altogether, they offer visitors both art and a social challenge—how many faces can you identify?

Artist statement

“Despite its huge geographical scale and ethnic diversity, American society, especially in the Midwest, is often mischaracterized as broadly homogenous. Behind this veneer of sameness lies a complex mosaic and diverse cultural expression.”
