Solar Eclipse Resources

Hennepin County residents will have an opportunity to experience a partial solar eclipse on April 8, 2024. Although the path of totality lies to our south, Twin Cities metro area residents can expect the sun will be 72-74% covered by the moon beginning at 12:49pm. The partial eclipse will be visible for nearly 2.5 hours, weather permitting.

Solar eclipse glasses are not available at Hennepin County libraries this year.

Instead of disposable solar eclipse glasses, creating pinhole viewers can allow youth and families to view the eclipse safely. Start exploring different STEAM-related activities:
