Library Cards Now Offer Free Copying Credit

Hennepin County Library is resuming its standard fee schedule for copy machines at all locations. However, every library cardholder’s $5 weekly printing credit will also be available for copying expenses. This benefit extension will take effect on June 2.

How it works

  • Your library card’s weekly $5 credit can be used for printing or black-and-white copying.
  • The credit renews every Sunday. Unused credit does not roll over.
  • After you reach the $5 limit, additional copies cost $0.10 per page.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Library suspended all print and copy fees to reduce cash handling. A popular and effective free printing program was launched in 2022, and the same technology is now installed on copy machines.

The fee structure is necessary to maintain equipment and supplies and helps ensure the long-term availability of these services. The $5 weekly credit helps ensure that cost is not a barrier to information, opportunity, or civic participation for any resident.
