Volunteer Tutors Needed

Hennepin County Library (HCL) is seeking volunteer tutors who are passionate about serving youth and families. Flexible opportunities are available at multiple library locations across Hennepin County.

Let’s Read

Let’s Read is a literacy tutoring program that focuses on supporting youth in grades K-5 in improving their reading skills. Students work 1-on-1 with a volunteer tutor once a week to build their skills, gain confidence and fluency.

Volunteer tutors for Let’s Read will work 1-on-1 with K-5 students using an easy-to-follow curriculum that includes all the materials to teach a practical lesson. No teaching experience is required. Training is provided.

Multiple opportunities are available including Brookdale, Brooklyn Park, Franklin, North Regional, Oxboro, Pierre Bottineau, Plymouth, Rockford Road and Sumner libraries.

Homework Help

Homework Help is a drop-in tutoring program for K-12 students to work with adult staff and volunteers on their homework assignments in a free, safe, and welcoming space after school. The focus of this program is to provide students with one-on-one and small-group support in understanding and completing the learning tasks assigned by their teachers at school. 

Many students who come to Hennepin County Library after-school academic support programs are recent immigrants and may be likely to encounter cultural or language barriers as they build their academic skills.

No teaching experience is required. Training is provided. Advanced math skills are a strong asset.
