Youth leadership opportunity at Hennepin County Library
- April 30, 2026
Hennepin County Library is accepting applications for a formal Library Youth Advisory Committee. Hennepin County commissioners will appoint a total of 14 youth – two for each district – for one-year terms.
The committee was created to provide youth with real-world opportunities to gain lifelong skills for civic engagement. Members of the Library Youth Advisory will learn about the library and choose areas of interest to explore deeper. Library staff will provide experts who will hear Advisory Committee members’ feedback and ideas. When possible, the Advisory Committee’s feedback will be used for action or to make change. Members will receive a stipend for participating.
Applicants must:
- Live in Hennepin County
- Be 16-19 years old
- Be able to serve a 1-year term (September 2026 – June 2027)
- Commit to a monthly meeting at Ridgedale Library in Minnetonka every third Thursday of the month from 5:30-7 p.m., and one Wednesday evening in June to meet with the Library Board, there may be group work assigned outside of the normal meeting times
Hennepin County Library is committed to supporting Youth Advisory Committee members. The library will work to ensure that technology, internet access, and transportation are not barriers to participation.
This year’s application deadline is Tuesday, June 30th.
