Rising/Falling

by Clara Ueland,
Etching

About the art

“Rising/Falling” traces the submerged rhizomes of a water lily heading down toward earth as a single flower and leaf balance atop the water and blossom up. With colors that echo each other from top to bottom, it’s a beautiful balance of inner and outer, hidden and seen. As such, the etching conveys both a sense of beauty and of depth—hinting at the vast knowledge, resources and beauty submerged within the library and within the individual.

Artist statement

“Photography helps me to capture some of these fleeting impressions and distill them into compositions for etchings. The final image will etch a moment in time that will never be the same again. I would like my work to reflect the beauty, unity and balance of the natural world.”
